Daily Bread 11-24-18

Proverbs 3:18

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

ref. - Gen 2:9 - And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

There are certain things that people live for. For worldly people it is wealth, knowledge, recognition, fame,..........many things. but attached to all these worldly "achievements" usually comes hatred, envy, crooked dealing, etc.... To a Christian what becomes the tree of life to them, what becomes the thing that they thrive on and that fuels them, is wisdom and understanding. We know that we cannot receive God's wisdom from anywhere else but him and the understanding of this wisdom comes from the Holy Ghost. This chapter talks not only of the possession of wisdom and understanding but moreso the merchandise thereof. This means what we can purchase or attain when we have this wisdom and understanding. The benefits of these things that come from God are not able to be purchased and, if attained by means on this earth are only temporary. The gifts and promises of God to a Spiritual man in Christ are things like peace, temperance, patience, true love....... Things by which a man can become very dependent upon. Our needs are all fulfilled in attaining God's wisdom. So, today let us pray for wisdom and understanding and let us strive forward and closer to God. The more that we receive or attain the more we will realize that.....our lives depend on it!! And when we have reached our goals or at least gotten closer to the prize, we will celebrate and be filled with joy as we will then know that we are one step closer to eternal life!!!
