Daily Bread 11-21-18
1 Corinthians 5:7,8
7. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sanctified for us:
8. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
ref. - Isa 53:7 - He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before his shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Ex 12:5,6 - Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
Ex 12:15 - Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
Dt 16:3 - Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
Today we are learning that all things commanded in the word of God do not pertain to us. Many of them have been superseded, or replaced by what Christ has brought us. In the days before Christ there were precise orders given to the people that they must follow each year on the dates that they were set aside. It was written and they were to follow it. But as Jesus came and offered us this great salvation through repentance and remission of sins, and even the baptism of the Holy Ghost, we are taught a different way. A better way. One that we can achieve and establish in our lives. Now Paul was dealing with the Corinthians that were accepting of the gospel that he was offering but not letting go of the old way that they were taught when they were under the law. What these people needed to do was to search their law and realize that it didn't do away with the old sin but that it always reminded them of it. They were required to make a sacrifice from their possession, in this case a lamb or goat. But today, in Jesus Christ, we are taught and learn that Jesus Christ was that sacrifice and it was a one time sacrifice. when he died on that cross our days of sacrificing our possession and thinking that it would get us Spiritual things has gone. We are not to think that offering our best carnal things to God will cause us to prosper, but rather that we offer our best of our own selves. We offer up our souls that they may be purged of the things that caused us to have to make sacrifice in times past. Not to be brought up again but to be completely purged of these offenses. Our sins shall be no more. You see, we are now living in a day where a Spiritual salvation is offered. One where we are changed from the inside so that we will no longer have to give sacrifice but to seek for his Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth. We serve him with our whole hearts sincerely and honestly. If we have done wrong we go to him in repentance and we are told to go forth and sin no more. But honesty and sincerity is the way that we approach him. Not with our finest animal to sacrifice our a hand full of money to donate, thinking that this will cover our sin. No, in this we will only be required to bring more and sacrifice more, each time reminding us of what we have done. Our donations are because we have it in our hearts to help when we are in a position to help, but not to cover our sin. What Christ wants is a sincere offering from our hearts and souls so that they may be transformed into dwelling places for his Holy Spirit. A cleansing of unrighteousness out from among our own being, rather than an offering to keep it covered up. A true redemption and forgiveness for our sin and the ability to not return to it. We no longer have to find which sacrifice is right for which sin, we have one advocate and one savior. We have what the prophets spoke of, sought after, but were never fortunate enough to see. We have Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever. The perfect lamb that was offered up without spot or blemish, as an eternal sacrifice for our sins. So let us press onward in Christ and leave behind the sin that so easily befalls us. Let us offer up our own souls to be purified by him and not man. Let us be his children and he will be our God!! Have a great day!!
