Daily Bread 11-10-18
Hebrews 8:11-13
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
ref. - Isa 54:13 - And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
The new covenant, where we have been instructed not to look at every man as our brother or our neighbor but to look at the Lord God and his Son Jesus Christ as our leader and example. Many men will explain this without understanding and our minds will become clouded with confusion but what this means is that rather than one man saying follow this man or pay attention to this man, we are to focus on learning of the ways of God. And in this new covenant our Lord and Savior, the one we are to learn and follow, is Jesus Christ. In following after and learning of Jesus Christ, and our dedication to become obedient to his teachings, we will be given brothers and neighbours, but even these are not to be determined by us. God will give them to us and we will know as we will be in one mind and one accord in the things of Christ. No, we will not have the same gifts, talents, or even live the same lives, but we will have the same Father and our Lord and Savior will be Jesus Christ. We hear all of this one mind and one accord being told to us but we are trying to become in one mind and one accord carnally and not spiritually. We are looking at the disobedient, the sinner, the non- believer and trying to be in one mind and one accord with them when our lives and our direction, our beliefs and our values, are exactly opposite. Most of this comes when we have a carnal attachment to them. When we are instructed by Christ to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, we are also told that all the things that we are so concerned about will be added unto us. God will provide for all of our needs. This is to include what we are being told today. Not every man is our brother, and not every man is our neighbour. We are not to teach or learn how to get along with one another and to become one big happy family. But we are rather to be taught the things of God and the teachings of Christ, and, in this, we will be introduced to who is our neighbour, and who is our brother, and we will become that one, big, happy family. Oh, wait a minute, didn't Christ already explain that when his mother and his brothers came to the place where he was healing the sick? Did he not say, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? Whosoever shall do the will of my Father, these are my mother and these are my brothers. So, you see, rather than looking at people who walk the earth today and idolizing them or using them as examples, let us all learn of Jesus Christ together and those who will believe, repent, and be saved, will then be our neighbours and our brethren. Just like this little Church says in our song, "You cannot join it, you must be born again, this is The Church Of God Of The Firstborn", it is right, it is true, and it is me and you, if we will just believe and follow the path that has been made in Jesus Christ! Have a great day!!!
