Daily Bread 10-19-18

Psalms 59:1-17

1 Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from all them that rise up against me.

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgressions, not for my sin, O Lord.

4 They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

5 Thou therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah

6 They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

8 But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

9 Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob until the ends of the earth. Selah

14 And at evening let them return, and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

15 Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17 Undo thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

ref. from verse 3 - 1S 26:18 - And he said, Wherefore doth my Lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done?or what evil is in mine hand?

from verse 8 - Ps 2:4 - He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

What a great lesson! What we really need to take from this is that even though this man wants to destroy his enemies, he still put it in God's hands. In this prayer he was upset at the beginning and by the end of it he was calmed and reassured of God's mercy upon him. This is why, when we are pushed to our limits and even before so, we must pray and lay it all out there on the Lord. He knows our thoughts and he knows our intentions before we utter a word so we might as well be honest in our prayer to him. As we can see, David was quite upset about those who went around shooting their mouths off and he even said they sound off like dogs in the streets. Sound familiar? Well, he didn't mean that they barked like dogs, he just meant they sounded off like dogs. If a dog can't be heard or is ignored he barks louder until he gets some attention. We go through that today even in our little circles. There are always people who can't ever get what they are looking for because it is not them speaking. They go round looking for this and that but are never satisfied with that God gives them. They attack what they do not understand rather than looking for understanding. They despise authority without ever giving obedience a chance. Gods will is that no matter what the enemy does, whether in men who appear as dogs or are dressed like saints and are ravening wolves inside, is to let God have it in his hand. He already has it but by releasing it to him we will free ourselves of the anger and the malice. We will get rid of our desire to consume them and we will be returned to the state where we can worship God and praise his name with our hearts minds and souls!! And just as God has promised us from the beginning, he will take care of the pigs and dogs in the way that he sees fit. But, don't be surprised if they are still around or there becomes more of them. The enemy tries many different ways to pull us away from God in many different people. Main thing is that we know who they are and what they are and avoid them. This is why David asked the Lord to scatter them so that the people could see who they were. In time they would be going round still howling and never being fed. They will be as beggars in the streets just looking for someone to listen to them and barking back if they are not heard. But we will sing of his power as we have released it from ourselves and put it in God's hands!! We will proclaim his great mercy and have his mercy be put in us!! We will see the dogs, we will hear the dogs, but we will know that they are harmless and laugh at them. Our mountain will be taken out of our way because we have faith and believe. And if God has them in derision that means that he laughs at them to the point as to discredit them. To show them that they have no power and that no matter how loud they bark, things will not go their way as they do not really know what their way is. So let us get what we have in us off of our chests, not to one another, but to God. Let us release the venom that is poisoning us and let God calm the troubled waters. Let us pour it out to him and he will hear our prayers. He will change our way of thinking and fill us with peace, love, and mercy, and let the dogs have the poison that they so easily spread and thrive on. God is with us, who can be against us?? No one, that's who!!! Have a great day!!!
