The Sermon on the mount(cont'd)
Matthew 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
ref. - Pr 23:4 - Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
Heb 13:5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Lk 12:33,34 - Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faith not, where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
In today's society we are judged by the things that we have. Our possessions and our worth are what determine our importance. There are many a wealthy man who know nothing that they should know. But society put them up on high and, in turn their riches and their greed becomes their God. All these things will not continue on with us so is we want money, work and earn it, if we want things, go and buy them, but the more that we have, the harder it will be to give attention to the importance of our souls. So, today, rather than saying that we should have nothing and sell everything let us look into the part of this scripture that cannot be understood by those who have not the Spirit. The Spiritual meaning of this is what we, as Christians, need to pay attention to. If we do this, all other things will fall into place. In this lesson we will compare spiritual to worldly thinking. Verse 19 says not to lay up our treasures on earth, where month doth corrupt and rust rots, and thieves can steal. If we look at this as worldly we can see that all things that come from the earth will be altered and changed and replaced by other worldly things. If we find a way to earn a lot of money, there will always be a better, faster way to earn more. If we find a way to achieve fame, there will always come along someone with a better idea that pushes them to another level, and we will have to either change or lose what we have. This is why, Spiritually, we must stick in this gospel as it will never change or be replaced. It is the best and most perfect will of God. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If we follow him we will never find something else that is better, stronger, or smarter. His mercy endureth forever. Once we are in him, we will never have to alter our belief and we will also be strong enough that no man can sway us. That is, unless we fall short of what he has brought us. But he will never be replaced, nor will this gospel ever replaced. It will never rot away or be stolen, it will never become old and worthless. It also cannot be taken away by man. What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. He will never leave us, nor forsake us. If we can concentrate on receiving the Spiritual things of God then we will be concentrated on Jesus Christ, and our treasure will be in heaven. If our treasures are in heaven, our hearts will be there also. This is the goal of a Christian. Even though to the world we are rich or poor, strong or weak, smart or dumb, and some think that we are incapable of understanding or being obedient to the teachings of Christ and this gospel, just remember this; "Luke 18:27 - And he said, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God." What God can do in our souls through Jesus Christ will shape and mold us into children of God and not children of the world. This, my Brothers and Sisters is a treasure that the world cannot provide!! Have a great day!!!
