The Sermon on the mount(cont'd)
Matthew 5:40-42
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that sketch thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Dt 15:8 - But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
Here we see the conversion that we must make from earthly and sensual to Spiritual. An ordinary worldly man is not going to have the ability to do these things as he has been trained from birth to do different. But as we grow Spiritually our drive and our purpose changes also. We change from a "what's in it for me" person to a person who is willing to help others above ourselves. The needs of others take precedence over even our own needs. We may already know that a man is our enemy and on the attack against us but rather than fighting back,(which coincidentally is all the enemy wants) we must just keep our peace and do as we are instructed by Christ. Let the world think that it has won, let them think they are in control, let the enemy give them a false sense of victory, the true victory will be ours when we are welcomed into eternity. We do not serve the same Spirits as them and we need to show them that kindness and mercy is what brings peace rather than the Spirit of anger and revenge. In the scripture it says that when we do good unto even our enemies that it heaps coals on their heads. Not the man, but the Spirit that is in them will be defeated. This is our purpose. Not to destroy man but to defeat the Spirit of the enemy that is in them, If the enemy cannot get us on his ground he will not defeat us. If we stay on high moral ground in the Spirit of God there is no way that he can take us. It is when we leave our safe ground and return to where we came, the ground of the enemy, that we will be overcome and in this no one will come out the victor. So forgive those who have offended you, help those in need no matter their situation, and if the enemy attacks, remember, the best way to beat him is to fight with weapons that he does not possess. Kindness and mercy, patience and long-suffering, love and meekness, the gifts of the Spirit. To these he has no defense. In this we will not only come out the victor ourselves but we just may rescue other souls from the clutches of the one who wants us destroyed. There is power in all that Christ brought us so let's follow after it and use that power to show the world who he is. He is good, He is love, and he is our Lord! To him be the honor and the glory, forever and ever, Amen!! Have a great day!!!!
