The Sermon on the mount

Matthew 5:5

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth

ref. - Ps 37:11 - But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Isa 11:4 - But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

When we explore the teachings of Christ we find that God's will in our lives is not only to reach the point of eternal life, but in that journey we are to possess the fruits of the Spirit. We learn this in Galatians 5:22,23. It tells us that one of the fruits of the Spirit is meekness and verse 23 ends in, "against this there is no law". Meekness is something that we will not be reproved or rebuked for, but rather blessed. That being said, this scripture in Matthew is Christ promising us that if we can possess this meekness, this fruit of his Spirit, we are truly blessed. His goal on this rock was not to show us how to get by with what we have, he shows us what we need to acquire to thrive and flourish. If we can seek after this great gift, that will surely be found in Jesus Christ, it is going to make this carnal life a better place as well. We will inherit the earth in that we will find peace in abundance. It seems that the outgoing and boisterous are always surrounded by controversy and chaos, while the meek have a peaceful way about them. Even in anger they seem to be controlled and can get over it more rapidly. So, we can see that meekness is truly a blessing that will cause us to live in peace. Why don't we get on our knees and pray that God will put that same spirit in us. When he sends us the way, we must submit ourselves to it. That way, is Jesus Christ. Call on him today and be blessed!
