Daily Bread 8-5-17

Matthew 7:6-9

6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it be given her.

ref. - Ec 5:2 - Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

And, today, we will let our words be few and let the scripture and it's references speak for themselves. Sometimes we make promises before the Lord in haste or out of anguish and they are not rational or just. Many of us have had to learn from great mistakes and have had to plead with God for forgiveness. But thanks be to God that he gave us an intercessor that will go to Him on our behalf. Before we go and make rash decisions and oaths in error let us think about the long term effects and the long term dedication that we are making. When we make a promise before God it is to be held. Unless there is scripture supporting our actions and decisions to forego that oath we will be held to that promise. Let the word of God speak for itself today and let it penetrate deeply as it is life and breathe to the believer, but to the non-believer it is foolishness. To the true believer, obedience will be practiced, to the non believer there will be excuses and disobedience. Be a believer in Jesus Christ and be saved, but let your promises and your words be few. Have a great day!!!
