Daily Bread 7-5-17
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked sometime, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off these things; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with is deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image if him that created him:
ref. - Jas 1:21 - Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word. which is able to save your souls.
Lv 19:11 - Ye shall not steal, nor deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
Ro 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Eph 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Mortify - To subdue(conquer) physical desires by self denial, fasting, etc.
The word of God tells us clearly what the will of God is. Whether we choose to accept it is our own choice. The definition of mortify was written at the top of the page so that there is no misunderstanding of what God commands us to do. We must cast off and get away from the sins that are holding us back. We must conquer them by putting them by the wayside and moving on. The mountains must be turned to mole hills by our will to become obedient to the wishes of God. We were not created to be the people that the world has produced. We were created as an implement of good will and well doing. Good works is what the scripture reads. Now, in order to become this vessel of good works we must first pray and believe that God is with us, then cast off these works of darkness. We must also believe that the good work that he has started in us will be continued until Christ comes again(Phillipians 1:6). Once we have been cleansed and have found the strength that is in Christ to get away from these things we must not only close the door to it but remove it altogether. This removing any way to return. It says to lay apart filthiness, not to surround ourselves with it. It says to accept the word with meekness, which if accepted in this manner will save our souls. So today, we need to accept the word as it comes. Not adding or taking away, but looking at it as it is. God's perfect will. These epistles were not written so that men could be seen, heard, and acknowledged. No, they were written because God knew that one day we would each, in his perfect time and in his perfect will, need them to draw us closer to be the workmanship that he created. Not the work that the world created or that we were programmed from birth to follow, but His perfect will. In order to find this will and follow it we must submit ourselves and let ourselves be transformed into Spiritual creatures rather than carnal. Godly men and women instead of worldly. Children of the King and not princes of the world. We were created in greatness and for greatness. Recognize it, grab onto it, and flee the wicked ways that have held us back for years. God will take us to the place that we need to be in Jesus Christ where these evil things do not exist. Our physical beings will have to dwell with these things around them, but if we can cast this wickedness off, it will no longer possess our souls and, therefore, it will no longer effect us. We can do it because the word of God says we can, and it says that we must. So instead of just saying that we have it done, let's pray, put in the work, and let our testimonies and our lives be the example. Let our lights shine before men as we were once in the darkness that possesses them! Become the stewards of good works and find that eternal prize one day waiting for us on the other side!!! Have a great day!!!
