Mark 9:13
But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done to him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
ref. - Matt. 11:14 - And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Matt. 17:12 - But I say unto you, that Elias has come already, and thy knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
These disciples were in the same shape as most of the rest of the people that were following God. Only benefit they had was that they had been taken under the wing of Jesus and were being taught further than the scribes and they were taught the truth. The others had come to a standstill on the words of the Holy Prophets and were so caught up in waiting that they didn't even realize that prophecy was unfolding before their very eyes. They only had scribes and priests to get their information. But the disciples had Christ. This is what led them out of the darkness and into the light. In the instance of this scripture the disciples were wondering what the prophecy of Elias meant. They had been taught one thing, but there was no continuation of it. Although the time was moving forward, the doctrine of the Scribes and the Jews was not. This is where it was so important for them to hear the words of Christ. Complete understanding was given on the subject of Elias and pretty much any other subject they asked of him for that matter. Why? Because he was God on earth. All knowing and filled with God's Holy Spirit! Today the question we need to ask is do we know exactly what we have been given? Or do we stumble around using a bit here and there as it suits us and wondering about the rest? As young children we are taught that if we have a question to ask, to ask it. If we do not ask we will never know the answer we are looking for. But we must know who to ask. This is where faith comes in. Each of us is challenged today to go in prayer and ask God to reveal something we don't understand in Jesus name. Then don't go to anyone else, not to your wife, husband, child, preacher, his wife, nobody, with the question. Just wait on God and pray that he will lead you in the right direction and guide you to the answer. We must put our faith in him and wait on him. The answer will come. But what we do with it is what will determine how it affects us. We must believe in the messenger and the message, just as the disciples were to believe that John the Baptist was the messenger of their time. You see, the only ones who were affected in a positive way in what John the Baptist brought were those who had enough faith in God to believe the message that was being given. Once the disciples had been given this information by Christ it made them then realize that they were being drawn even closer to God. He was giving them understanding that he wasn't just sharing with anyone. He was only sharing it with they who had ears to hear. Today let us have ears to hear and become closer to God than we have ever been. Do not pass by the signs and wonders and miracles that are right in front of you in Jesus Christ. Grab hold and take all that he will trust you with. He knows us! He loves us!! And he will never give us more than we can handle!! Have a great day!!!
