Daily Bread 1-28-17

1 Timothy 3:1-7

1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

ref. - Ac 20:28 - Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Josh 24:15 - And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Ph 1:1 - Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons.

The word of God is righteous, it is true, it is yes and amen. In order to walk in the ways of the Lord we must truly submit ourselves to him. The word that many are called but few are chosen rings very true in this scripture today. There are many that have the desire but few that have the dedication to follow through with what is required of us to become the recipient of our desires. Some may have never had it, some may have lost it, and some may have just given it up. Either way, the word of God still stands true. If we are still serving God and we still desire to do something for him we must return to our knees and seek out the things of God. We must refrain from listening to the advice and the teachings of the world and fully commit ourselves to the will of God through the scriptures in the Holy Ghost. Even if we have fallen or stumbled, we must return humbly to the feet of Jesus and call on him for forgiveness. The office of a Bishop is a huge responsibility and the lives and futures of thousands if not millions of people depend on the leadership that it offers. These requirements are not just for the one receiving the office, but mores for those who will depend on him for the future. Therefore, we must choose today whom we will serve and stand by it. The gods of the world? The gods of another religion or sect? Or the God of The Churches of God whom is the creator of all things? If we are called to be a servant and it is our desire, then let us pray fervently for the Holy Ghost to enter our souls and guide us on this journey that God has called us to be on. The only way that we will ever be of help to anyone including ourselves is to be honest and do what is necessary to fulfill our heavenly calling. It all starts with less me time and more knee time! The word of God says in Jesus Christ we are capable and justified, so let us walk justified
