Daily Bread 1-17-17
Colossians 3:16-20
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
ref. - 2 Ti 3:15-17 - And from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Eph 5:19 - Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
1Cor 10:31 - Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Prov 23:22 - Hearken unto thy Father that begat thee, and despise not thy Mother when she is old.
Our first focus, and the root of this lesson is the first and second verses.(16,17). The latter verses cannot be accomplished without the first two verses. But we must do more than just read them and say Amen. We must accompany our Amen's with obedience and prayer. We must also have a deep desire to let this word dwell in us. We must make our main focus in life serving God and receiving the spiritual weaponry needed to please him. All that we do must be done in a way that we can tag the name of Jesus to it. It seems like a lot of work and near impossible to some, but it is possible with the help of God. The best way to find out what God has for us is to ask him. The greatest way to find out what we are supposed to be like is to learn of Christ, our prime and main example. You see, we could dwell on verses 17,18, and 19, but unless we are performing verses 15 and 16 from our hearts and not only our mouths, we will never truly accomplish what we are told to do in 18,19, and 20. So, today let's know what God's will is in our families(first Spiritual and then carnal), and let's pray and receive what we need to make it happen. Let's learn the scriptures and strive to live by them. Let's learn of Christ and strive to be like him. Let's pray and pray ad pray for the divine help of the only one who can put it in us to become obedient to the teachings of Christ and then we will be able to follow these commandments;
Wives, submit to your husbands.
Husbands, love your wives.
Children, be obedient to your parents.
If we become obedient to what Christ has taught us and is still teaching us through the Holy Ghost, then this will not be burdensome or impossible. But we must be willing to let go of the ways of the world and grab onto the will of God. If we sing, let us sing from the heart to glorify God! If we preach, let us preach in the Spirit to glorify God!! If we exist, let us exist to glorify God!!! Let us just glorify God in everything we do, giving thanks to Jesus Christ for all that he has done!!! Have a great day!!!
