Daily Bread 12-7-16

Romans 6:11-14

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto god through Jesus Christ our Lord.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

ref. - Gal 2:19 - For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

Eph 4:22 - That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Gal 5:18 - But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Tit 2:14 - Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Today we see that we have been called to something far more spectacular than average! We have been not only called to serve God in Jesus Christ but also been given the capabilities to be dead to sin! The world tells us that we will sin every day and so do the false prophets, but the word of God says that we must put forth an effort to yield ourselves to God. We mustn't look at the world that accepts failure and sin but look towards Christ who has no sin in him! The sacrifice at the cross wasn't just a display of courage and commitment. There was purpose in that a clean, perfect, everlasting sacrifice was made for our sin so that we could move forward and sin no more. Today is not the day to water down the gospel but it is the day that we walk deeper into the gospel. We need to pray in a way that it does not come from our mortal bodies but from our souls. We need to rely not on our mortal bodies but on what type of Spirit dwells within us. If it does not take us away from sin and closer to God it is not the right Spirit and we need to pray for God to expel that spirit from within us and put the right Spirit where it belongs. We should no longer walk around afraid that we are going to sin, but realize that sin is not in us any longer so it is not a priority. Many walk around afraid of the devil and afraid of sin because they have a passive, earthly spirit that does not possess the power to hate sin and fight the devil. It is time that our goals and our passions in life start leaving the carnal and begin seeking for the spiritual things. Things that will purify us, keep us from sin, and take us to eternal life. So, let us find in Jesus Christ the strength and power to make ourselves dead to sin and let us LIVE!!! Have a great day!!
