Daily Bread 10-27-16

Acts 17:32-24

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

ref. - Ro 11:5 - Even so then at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

When Paul would preach across the land he would face three different types of people. Ones who would not believe the Gospel that he preached and mocked him. Ones who needed to hear more to be convinced of this Gospel. And those who absolutely believed the Gospel and clung to it. In each of our lives today we are one of these things. We either are nonbelievers, people who need convincing, or true believers. there is really no middle ground when it comes to this. Let us speak about each of the three. The mocker; One who has heard the truth and does not believe it. They do not have to openly mock the truth, only their non-belief after hearing it is quite enough to let God know that they think the gospel is foolishness. The information seeker; One who is still curious but not convinced of the truth. Very dangerous ground to be on as they have heard the truth, shown some understanding, and are responsible for what they have heard. Time to flip the switch and believe. And finally, the Believer; This is someone who is fascinated by the Gospel and believes that the information given is truly the will of God in their lives. Ever clinging to it and pushing to remain obedient to it, knowing that in the Gospel of Jesus Christ lies the key to the kingdom of God. Today, we need to look into our own hearts, each and every one of us, and see what we have going on in there. When we hear that Christ has risen again is it planted on good ground, taking root and feeding from the Gospel, or is the seed on the surface to be washed away at the first rain? When the Gospel is given to us is our faith established on a rock that is a good foundation, Jesus Christ, born, crucified, and risen again, so that when the rains come we are left standing tall? Or are we in the sand where we are washed away at the first sign of doubt? Not all who claim the name of Jesus Christ will enter in because of their unbelief. What we need to do today is tone ready to serve Him in whatever capacity he calls us to and believe that he has got us in the right place in the right time, doing the right thing, to be the examples that he has made us to be. As believers we should be clinging to the gospel and the Holy Ghost teachings of it so that we may also become fruitful and one day worthy of a heavenly calling. Let us ask ourselves; Are we that remnant that is elected according to grace? Follow him with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind, and it will be yours!!! Have a great day!!!
