Daily Bread 6-3-16

Ephesians 1:15-19

15 Wherefore I also after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all of the saints,

16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

ref. - Col 1:9 - For this cause we do, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and desire that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Acts 26:18 -To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

The purpose of a Church and it's leaders. We can examine the direction that any Church needs to go and also see what the act of a true leader is when we read of the writings of Paul to the Ephesians. As soon as Paul heard that there were believers, he immediately began to pray for them. Not ceasing, but mentioning them in his prayers that God would give them wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. He led people to the teachings and life of Christ. He wanted them to receive the same knowledge that he, himself, had received when he believed. He wanted nothing more than for all believers that had come to the feet of Jesus to receive understanding so that they could know their purpose and what they were really serving God for. Their hope. He did not try to restrict or retard the believer's growth, he prayed continuously that they would grow more and more in understanding. You see, there are two kinds of leaders; One, who is really not a leader at all, that tries to bind, limit, and tie down those that he has been put in authority over. And two, a true leader, who is willing to admit that he is learning around every corner as well, but has been given the authority over others so that he may help them to prosper and someday, if God's will, be a leader as well. This man will be in control but will serve God beside the people in fear and trembling knowing that his own soul is at stake. The first that is spoken of will try to bind but as soon as the people can get away from him they do. This is not God's will nor is it his will for us to wander as sheep without a shepherd. But the second, that is spoken of, the true leader. The one that has been called by God and accepted his calling, accepted the understanding and communicated it to the believers. Now this is the leader that God has put in. One who cares for each of our souls as if they were his own but at the same time knowing that they belong to someone much greater than him. One who loves god's people and prays for them to continue in the faith that only comes from Jesus Christ. We are all, in one way shape or form, called to be that leader and through our own perseverance and devotion to God in Jesus Christ we will understand not only our place and purpose in this world but also in life everlasting. Today, brethren, be encouraged to know that someone in leadership is praying for you to grow in understanding and knowledge. They are praying for you to have the wisdom that can only come from God through Jesus Christ. May the power of Christ in the Holy Spirit course through your veins and into your heart today and find a clean place to dwell. This, children, is God's will for you. Have a great day!!!
