Daily Bread 5-10-16

Acts 17:5-9

5 But Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring out the people.

6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, these that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of

Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they had heard these things.

9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

ref. - Rom. 16:21 - Timotheus my workflow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipiter, my kinsmen, salute you.

Luke 23:2 - And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

We see through this scripture that the non believing Jews were losing ground a Jews and Greeks alike were following what these men were teaching about Jesus Christ. They tried to conquer these men in the only way they knew how, by force. And though they did capture Jason, they were not successful in stopping the very source of the Gospel. Why? Because you cannot stop Spiritual power with physical force. This brings us to our lives today. As we follow Christ and more and more people begin their journeys as well, there will be men(and women) of our own people(families, friends, etc.) that will try to stop what God is doing in you. Not because they are bad people, they usually think they have good intentions. But because they do not believe or trust in the same Savior that we do. These people will think they are doing an act of kindness but they do not know the Christ that we follow. If they do not succeed in removing what Christ has put in us the next thing they do is try to remove those from our lives who support and aid us in our journey with Christ. In the scripture they thought that they had taken care of the problem by taking out the leader of the house, in this circumstance Jason, but the Gospel continued and the people still followed Christ and the actual leaders, Paul and Barnabas, continued to convince their people that Jesus was the Christ and that he was their Savior. In our lives we are going to face this opposition, but the Cross of

Christ will never be taken away nor will the fact that he defeated death ever be removed from History. The world and it's followers will make attempts to remove Christ from our lives and those who support us but they will not succeed! There is nothing that man can do to remove what God has given us in Christ Jesus and if we continue to follow him, we will defeat every worldly opposition that comes our way! This Gospel will continue living, our Christ will continue living, not because we are in the world but because the Gospel and Christ is in our hearts! Have a great day!!!
