    The Sermon on the mount(cont'd)

    Matthew 6:25

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.  Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

ref.-  Lk 12:22,23 - And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat: neither for the body, what ye shall put on.  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

Another verse that has been interpreted many different ways and, in reality, there is only one way.  In both the scripture and the reference the verses refer to "the life" and "the body".  In this sermon Jesus was trying to lead the people from a carnal salvation into a Spiritual salvation.  He was defining things differently than they had ever been defined and the gospel was being given for all who would follow him to prosper in a Spiritual sense by living Spiritually.  This is why we must understand these commandments of Christ in a Spiritual sense.  If we can do this, everything else will follow.  So, in the words of Christ what or who is "the life"? (Jn 14:6-Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.) And who does the Apostle Paul, through the Holy Ghost, say is the body?(Col 1:18-And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.   Also Col 1:24 - Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:) Now it makes more sense what Christ is talking about.  Food and clothing have little to do with it.  He is telling us that there is so much more to what Christ has for us than carnal things.  We need to seek after the Spiritual things that cannot be bought in a store or earned in a wage.  Jesus Christ did not come to show us how to support ourselves and prosper carnally. He came to show us how a son of a carpenter could live humbly, and have his eye focused on God.  Never being caught up in a need that was not supplied nor losing his sight of the reward.  He showed us how a man without the influence of money, big education, or fame, could change the world.  And it was not what was on the outside, it was what ruled the inner man.  So, today, we can finally see what this scripture really means and strive to put it into practice in our lives.  Seek not for the things of this world, you have a mighty savior that has conquered this world. He has greater and mightier things for each of us if we seek for the things of Christ and not the things of the world! Many are called but few are chosen.  Whether we are chosen or not depends on why we are serving God and following Christ.  Is it for the fishes and the bread, or is it for the miracles??(Jn 6:26,27) Have a great day and remember, Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you!!!!
