Romans 11:3
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
ref. - 1K 19:10 - And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
In this chapter Paul was trying to encourage the Romans that God had not forgotten his people. Paul used the scriptures about Elias when he pled with God to help him. He felt that he was the only one left that was truly fighting for what was right. In turn, God reassured him that there were seven thousand men that were also with him and would be returned to God to continue the fight. What Paul was trying to get to the Romans was that he was one of those remnants of these reserved men. God will never forget our pleas for help and, in time, help will come to us. He told the Romans that just as God had reserved these seven thousand men there was also, in this day, a remnant of men according to the election of grace. This election of grace continues on today as we fight the good fight of faith in a different manner. Our fight is not carnal and we do not go to battle or to the sword, but it is a spiritual battle between what is going on in the hearts and minds of men. Although the warriors are few and the battle is growing stronger, there still is rest for God's people in Jesus Christ. This rest will always be here for us as long as we believe. It is when we feel that we may be alone on our quest that God will send someone to reassure us that he is here with us. Even though it seems that we are outnumbered and that the odds are against us, if we remain faithful and true, God will not allow our souls to perish. He has vowed to strengthen our souls day by day if we will only believe. This, my brothers and sisters, is the good news that we all need to hear today. If he reserved seven thousand to accompany Elias in his fight, and he reserved a remnant by the election of grace to help Paul in his battle, then he also will have ones who will be there to help us in our battle against evil spirits and unjust men. So, today if we are feeling alone, overpowered, and weak, let us call on our sovereign God in the name of Jesus Christ and wait on the only help that will benefit us. That is, help from the Holy Spirit of God. It is this Spirit alone that will confirm to us that we are not alone and that this movement and this Gospel will not be overcome!! It is in Jesus Christ that we will remain strong or regain our strength. So let us stand up and be more than conquerors in Jesus Christ our Lord!!! Have a great day!!!
