Daily Bread 6-29-17
Luke 26:27-29
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
ref. - Isa 8:20 - To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
In this scripture there a re a few points that we can approach. The first being that if we are not going to serve God then he will not lend an ear to our requests. No matter how important that we get in this world,if we are not serving him our requests will be denied and we will end up in a lake of fire. If this man would have served God instead of the world he would not have been in the situation that he was in and his brothers probably would not have been lost either. But he chose the path that he would take and it led to eternal damnation. His example that he left behind for his brothers would end them up in hell also and he was trying to change that. But once the books are closed and our work is ceased, there is no more room for repentance and no more chance for redemption. It is over. Today, we are not happy with the messengers of Christ and we try to find any reason not to become obedient to what is taught in the gospel, but we still want God to hear our prayers and to meet our demands. When we realize that it is too late we will then begin to worry about our loved ones and it will be too late. Just as we chose not to listen to the messengers of God today, so will those who look up to us. But we will no longer be able to help them or ourselves. God will do us no favors and those that we leave behind will be faced with the same decisions that we once failed at. So, how do we avoid this? We become as Lazarus and not the rich man. We follow Christ as we have been instructed to do. We listen to the messengers of God's word and become doers and not just hearers of the word. We have a decision to make that will not only effect our own outcome but the outcome of many others, we must follow Christ wisely. We must remain humble and true to our God in Jesus Christ. There is no time to waste while we are on this earth and we must become what God made us to become. So, let us believe and have faith in God enough to listen to his messengers, listen to his word(because if the messenger speaks not God's word, there is no light in him and he is not a messenger at all), and be transformed into someone that one day will be held in the bosom of our God and welcomed as children of the most High God! This is how we help ourselves and those who we care the most dearly for!! Have a great day!!!!
